Linking up with other trees

Is there any way that someone can link up with your tree without permission, The reason I ask is that this appears to have happened to me with a relative and when I today changed info on my tree and then clicked back on theirs the info I had changed also did on theirs. It seems strange to me but just wondered if this is possible as I haven't even granted permission for them to view my tree and wondered if i've done something by accident as this has never occured before

Sheila, what might be happening is you may have been fooled into thinking you are viewing their tree when you are actually looking at your own. This is because the link SHOULD open the contact's tree but, because of the latest GR site glitch, opens yours instead. To test whether this has happened open your tree and make a note of how many individuals it says you have. Then go to contacts and open their tree. If the number in the tree is identical to yours (regardless of whether the tree says So-and-so's tree) then it is YOUR tree. It's blooming daft, I know!

Phew! I only realised this just in time yesterday when I was about to write a stinking letter to an innocent new contact accusing them of stealing my entire tree. It did strike me as unlikely that somebody could swipe all 3090 names in less than 24 hours though! However, there was someone on this board earlier who had taken the action of deleting chunks of her online tree when this happened to her, so it has caught quite a few of us out already.
