Ah, this is the site! http://www.regiments.org/ Its a bit complicated, but you will work it out. You need to see where all the regiments were stationed. It would be interesting, if this Daniel is a long serving soldier - and if you do find the regiment locally - to check out where they are in 1851 and see if you can spot a likely dad! good luck

Try a google search or look at the 1841 census? There is a site, whose name I always forget and its something simple like British Regiments - which lists where the regiments were at given periods so you may be able to find if there were a local barracks and indeed which regiments were there at the time of this affair?

Is there a way of finding out if there were any soldiers camps around Priors Hardwick/Stratford on Avon area (WARKS) in 1839? One of the most intriguing ladies on my tree, Eliza Wilkins, was the illegitimate daughter of a soldier and a servant girl. I have the servant girls line all the way to her death...but as for Eliza, she disappears after marriage, with her husband (poss emigrated). Her soldier fathers forename was Daniel.
