On 1871 census my ancester's relation to head is stated as 'Jobe Mother' (mother). Any idea what this means. On 1861 census she is listed as mistress. Pam

That must be a mistrans - if you give us her name, dob and place of residence we can all have a look at the image. Through the wonders of using just the Jobe Mother thingy, Ive found this on ancestry: I take it this is the one? Elizabeth Peck abt 1821 Yarmouth, Staffordshire, England Jobe Mother (Mother) Birmingham Ive looked at the image, it says The Mother

Thanks for all your help. I don't think they ever married on the 1851 census she is listed as housekeeper and the children are listed as hers but on the other census he calls them his children. I can't find a marriage for them. Thanks again.

Pam, have you got a birth cert for one of the kids with the fathers name on it?

Pamela

Pamela Report 29 Mar 2007 15:58

I don't have any birth certificates for any of the children, but I do have the marriage certificate of Matthias' daughter Esther and he now calls himself as Matthias Thomas Primer. So somewhere along the way he changed his name. It makes it difficult finding in which name any of the children married it could be either Peck or Primer.
