My thanks to both of you. This board is great, especially when you are feeling a bit dim. Moira. |

Hi Moira, The moral here is always check the image of the index page. :-) The entry has been mistranscribed and a correction has been submitted (this would be to the freeBMD site, which supplies its transcribed indexes to Ancestry). Both entries appear in the Ancestry index. If you check the image there is only one entry for Amy in the quarter you've indicated, and the correct ref is: Vol 4a Page 460 Chris |

Moira If you order them from the local Register Office, they will only charge you for the correct one (£7).Probably best ordered over the phone, or by email, so you can discuss the details that you have, which will help them to find the right one. If you order them from the GRO, then you will have to pay £11 - £7. for the correct one and £4 for the incorrect one. There are two ways of doing this, but it is as broad as its long, you pay the same to the GRO whichever way you do it. OC |

I have found a death for my gt gt grandmother, unfortunately there another Amy Girling who died in the same quarter, same age, same everything! I know you can ask for two certs to be checked but couldn't quite get how it works. My gt gt gran was Amy Artis (nee Girling) born abt 1831, married William Artis 1856, died 1874 Jun quarter, Wangford, Suffolk. The last info I have on her is that the family lived on the St Lawrence Road, Ilketshall St Andrew, Suffolk ( 1871 census). Please can someone advise me even if I am being a bit dumb about this. Moira. |
