I have been tracing my husbands family we seem to be getting more and more unusual things showing on certs. First we had birth being re registered 18 years later mother seemed to be married before but did not give fathers name on original certificate . I have just received her marriage certificate for her second marriage it shows her as Violet Fanny Murray formerly known as Maby (her maiden name is Horlock) any ideas why she is listed as Murray when it was a murray she married . When you check the condition box on certificate it says against bride and groom PREVIOUS MARRIAGE DISOLVED does this mean they were both divorced? Violet has even signed the certificate as MURRAY I thought you signed in maiden name . any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. carron |

You sign your marriage certificate in the name you were when you married. As her first married name was Murray, then she would sign her second marriage certificate as Murray. It sounds as if they were both married before, if it didn't say 'bachelor' next to her second husband's name. Kath. x |

It sounds as though she was already using the name Murray when she married Mr Murray. Your name is what you are commonly known as, and you can use any name you like as long as it is not for fraudulent purposes. OC |

It reads to me that she had been married more than once before ? Maiden name Horlock, then married a Maby, then married a Murray for which the marriage was dissolved, and then married another Murray. Maybe she even remarried the same person ? |
