No idea, Susan, but I wouldn't advise using the genes records for research.............they cost!! Reg

Hi I was looking for days for my Brother's name of David Bailey, born 1962. He was not adopted and always had the same name since birth but his register of birth is not there. He was born in the March quarter, Vol 9c page 137. We couldn't understand it, we thought we were overlooking it, so kept checking. I eventually got someone else to check for me elsewhere and the details are as above, but nothing on the genes records. Why is this?

No probs Heather, I was merely pointing out that our trains of thought were moving along similar lines.............. Reg

I messaged him re adoption last night, hadn't wanted to say that out loud on the board as it can be a bit delicate. Apparently that's not the case. Not heard anything more anyway.

Hi Reg, sorry Im guilty of what I have had a moan about, not reading previous answers before adding mine. Perhaps Davo is at work at the moment or is re thinking the situation.

I looked for my maternal great-grandfather birth indexes in Ancestry though it is not there, although i do have the birth registration when i obtained it from the family Records centre some years ago.

Tyhanks for you replies. I am looking at the index on Ancestry. She has also been to NRO but cannot find herself on the index, in that quarter, or any other.

Was it Free BMD you checked? Not always complete. Otherwise, is it poss that the person may have been born under a different surname? Or maybe in Scotland or Ireland?

Might the surname have been mistranscribed? It depends on what the name was. There is a possibility that since it was wartime, then entry got missed off the list sent to the GRO, but there aren't that many that are missing. Do you want to give us a name to check, or send by pm if you don't want to put a living person's name on the thread? Kath. x

Someone I know has her birth cert, but her name doesn't appear in the index for that quarter, or the next. Has anyone any idea what the problem with that may be? dob 08.08.1944 Thanks, David
