Hi Robert, if you know one of the names are correct, you can then send off for the certificate which will tell you the partners name. Sue |

Depends on when the marriage was ... The only way to know for cetain is to send for cert. But you could try and find them on a census and see who married who but this isn't the best way to do it especially if they are common names......But the census might hold clues ( ie if they have other realatives living with them ).... But a lot can happen in 10 years ( ie death )...so they only way to be 100% sure is the actual marriage cert ( or the birth cert of a child ) |

If they produced any children, the birth certificate will tell you the maiden name of the mother......... Sometimes you can get an idea by searching the census and seeing if you can find probable matches...not much use however if there are two 'Ann's' for instance and you don't know which one is 'yours'. You may find that on one of the census they have a family member with them and this will help with a 'best guess'. You can send for the marriage certificate only knowing one name. Gail |

Robert, the free uk BMD index shows surname of spouse in 1911 - I don't think it applies to years before this date Ann |

Mothers maiden names were added to births from Q3 1911, marriage partners were added to marriage index from Q1 1912 |

Who are we talking about Robert? And do you know the date of birth for any of their children - as on the full bmd the mothers maiden name will be included in the ref. |
