where can i get info from for boat people

i wonder if anyone could tell me if they know about any sites for boat families in the 1850/60. i have found that some of my relatives must have worked on the canal in leigh lancashire and would like to find out what life on the canal in leigh was like any ideas i have tried goodling but not much luck. would there be any records anywhere love linda |
