There is a family story that my aunt (now long deceased) insisted was true, that there were family living in 'Bermooda' (as she said it lol) I'm not sure who was supposed to have moved out there although I've narrowed it down to one of two brothers and probably after WW1. However I'm not sure where to look next. I've checked the Ellis Island database in case he/they moved on from there but so far no joy. Can any one give me any pointers on the next step? A couple of weeks in the sun visting distant rellies sounds very nice......lol! Sue

Dont know Sue, trouble is elderly rellies so often get the wrong end of the stick and they may be generations out. You could try googling Bermuda and your ancestors name just in case something comes up and also Bermuda and something like family history in a google?

Thanks Heather, elderly aunt was actually quite young when I first heard this story (well, younger thatn I am now any way!) I did Google surname and Bermuda, unfortunately the name is Butcher and you get a list of Butchers Shops in Bermuda ....Also Googled immigrants to Bermuda and got loads of current articles on illegal immigrants! I think this will become one of those little mysteries that I'll come back to when I'm bored! Thanks , Sue

Hi Sue - sometime ago there was advice given on here [by 'Maggie from across the pond' I think) about how to google. I think what you need to do is put the given name you think appropriate then + and after that, Butcher - so that the search is done on the whole name. Either that or try putting the name in a bracket. This should preclude getting butchers shops showing up!! Good luck Victoria

A long shot - try the IGI. I found ancestors who had gone to Bermuda and were using the 'Church of England' churches there. I then found a wealth of personal detail, Wills, writings to local newspapers etc. OC
