I have tracked my father's half sister from the UK to Santa Cruz and even located what I am fairly sure could be her phone number (even listed her age which would be correct). BUT I called the number several times to be told the number was not in service or had been diconnected!!!!!!! I am feeling a bit sick with the thought that I have come so close but as she would be aged 85 I may be too late. See Below For Update!!

I'm feeling a bit deflated at the moment the report has arrived. It definately was my aunt had the right birth date but unfortunately she passed away in January 2006. It has given me an address for her son however.

Well I called and he is on vaction until next Tuesday. So I must wait until then. Thanks ever so much to Lisa J who sent me some wonderful info about their arrival in the USA, that is something I will treasure. Updated to say Lisa has now sent the link for my aunt's obituary, which I can never thank her enough for. Also a big thanks also to Portland Rose for the information she has sent me. I am truly, truly thankful.

Well what a fantastic, exciting, unbelievable, sometimes sad 24 hours it was. I have now spoken with two of my three cousins in the USA ,the third one is on vacation in Hawaii. They were amazed, stunned, but also extremely thankful that I had searched and made the contact. The sadest thing of all was to find out that my aunt had passed away only last September believing that my father had gone missing in action in New Guinea in WW2 when in fact he lived until 1986. I find it hard to understand how anyone could have been so cruel as to tell their child such a thing. My fathers stepfather has turned out to be just as awful as we believed. I hope that this will be the start of a good relationship with this family, as they never had any cousins as their father was an only child. I will be sending off emails and photos to them over the next few hours. To Portland Rose and Lisa J for all the information you sent me there are not enough words to thank you but I must say that last night with dinner my sister and I toasted our new cousins and those who helped to make our dream a reality. To the Olde Crone Holden thank you for your sound advice (to ask the GRO to send me correct certificate). To Bernice Flowers who searched and found a GRO marriage reference for my aunt very early in the search my thanks also. To anyone who has encouraged me or offerred assistance...THANK YOU ALL!!!!
