I am using Cumberland family Tree in windows purely because a pal got it in a bundled CD package a few years ago. Seems reasonable enough. I have just being looking at 'Gramps' on the second PC which is running ubuntu linux as a second O/S. Not sure about it yet but being a man I haven't read any of the instructions. |

Paula, If you are looking at buying FTM then don't get conned by ''Deluxe'' versions etc. There is only one version of the program itself, ''Deluxe'' relates to the extras that they try to sell you, such as data cd's, sometimes for silly money which turn out to be as much use as the proverbial chocolate teapot. If you are not already a subscriber, sometimes the Ancestry offers are worth looking at though. |

Thanks all!! I have some info on here but to be honest I get nervous about having info on anything connected to the internet. I am also not too computer friendly myself so there is a lot of technology ignorance to overcome!! I just read the Google write-ups again and the FTM I was looking at that came in 2nd is FTM 16 Essentials. Does anyone know if this differs dramatically from the Deluxe Version. I'm not in need of anything fancy or complicated just something to log the persons details down and my source. |

I use Family Tree Maker and find it very easy to use. I was especially pleased to be able to transfer my approx 350-strong tree wholesale (including notes) from GR where I'd started out growing it direct to FTM with a few clicks. I then changed to growing my tree on FTM and - every so often - updating my online GR tree from it - again very easy. The tree charts and narrative trees you can create from your data are top notch. |

Hi! I am really needing to put all my concrete findings onto a software program as my paper system is getting VERY confusing!! Does anyone have any preferences or strong dislikes? I researched on google last night and it looks like the top 3 are 'Legacy Deluxe 6.0', 'Family Tree Maker-Version 16', and 'Ancestral Quest- Version 12'. (I'm in USA, if it makes any difference!) I just need something that is super user friendly!! Thanks! Paula |
