Does anyone have any idea how I can find out any information about an orphanage in Edmonton in the early 1900's ? My grandmother was born in Edmonton in 1905, her father died in 1907 and her mother in 1911. I know she was placed in an orphanage for several years until her brother married, and then took care of her. I have tried google, but not come up with anything. Would be great to be able to locate some records for her from that time. Any help appreciated. Thank you. Alison |

Try the London Metropolitan Archives. They are so helpful. Julie |

Hi Alison I work next to what used to be Edmonton workhouse. It is now the North Middlesex Hospital. It used to be in the county of Middlesex before all the boundaries got changed and now is part of London, the postcode being N18. Hope this is helpful. Lyndsey |

Thanks all for the replies. sorry about taking a long time to respond, but I'm on the other side of the world to you ! I will check into those links you have provided. Is the workhouse the most likely place for her to be sent rather than an actual orphanage ? Or were orphanages part of the workhouse anyway ? Would the London Metropolitan Archives be the most likely place to get records from for Edmonton, if the area was actually Middlesex at that time ? Thank you again, Alison |
