Thanks everyone for all your kind offers of help. I have been trying to make a list of what you sent and if i have got it all correct this is what i have ended up with. 1901 Census says William Jnr born Spitalfields. 1881 Wm Snr a Carman wife Ann son Wm born Islington 1881 Wm Snr a coachman. wife Sarah William Jnr born Mile End. 1871 William born Mile End - mother Hannah. Then i have got a birth of William Jnr at Wandsworth Surrey.. Is it me - none of it seems to tally. Maureen

Paul, Yes i know that but i have been at this one couple for over a month!! I went off on a tangent because William and Maud had children born in both Tendering Essex and London. I couldnt figure out why they should be in Tendering, one child born 1898 the other 1902 with one in between born Wandsworth, then back to London again for 2 more to be born. When i looked i found a Good family in Tendering. Could have been William and his parents but he was 10 years older than it said on his marriage cert. Then i found another lot of them in Devon!! Its really only the Fathers job that i have got as a clue What i did forget to say in my first message was that accoring to a rellie William Snrs wife was supposed to be named Rebecca (its down as that on Familysearch as well) I have found the 1901 census and that is the correct one, it further back that is causing the problem. I have sent for William James birth cert - although it says on census born in Spitlefields the only one i can find was Whitechapel, near enough i suppose. But its already been 2 weeks and i still havent received it, which from normal experience is going to mean they cant find it. I am wondering if Willaim Jnr gave the wrong name for his Father,, or the wrong occupation.Or he could have changed his job by 1901. Maureen
