I have come accross a few odd things and wonder if anyone knows the answers: 1. One of the birth certs I have was registered on 26th December, was this usual to be able to do this on Boxing Day? 2. A marriage cert. states Residence at Time of Marriage as 'Emmanuel' for bride and groom, any ideas? 3. The registrar (who I thought were the educated people at that time) spelt 12th as 'Twelfth' it was SE London though. |

Lindy, at one time, the only day people had off was christmas day, therefore it would have been a normal day for most people. If you notice, a lot of marriages happened on christmas day. |

My aunt and uncle were married on Christmas Day, so I guess that birth registrations could be done on Boxing Day, too. Perhaps the date was written in full ie twelfth in case the 12 may not have been legible? Whereabouts were they? in case I can guess at the Emmanuel. |

Marion, The marriage took place in Emmanuel Church in the Parish of Camberwell, County of Surrey. Surely they didn't live in the church??? Keith, Thanks for that and we think we're hard done by. |

Maybe that was the district, too? Sometimes I have seen just the district / village / area given and not an address. Got to go to sleep now. Goodnight. |
