I'm trying to find the birth date of Thomas Edward Franks on his death certificate in 1905 in Victoria Australia it states Liverpool. his marriage certificate in 1867 in Victoria Australia also states Liverpool and gives his parents as John Franks a Surveyor and Sarah Hughes. I can't find them or Thomas its driving me to drink. His age on death was 62 so I would think he was born in 1843. Would have John & Sarah moved a bit because he was a surveyor? Any help would be appreciated. Regards Heather

Hi Lynne You are right of course, but there are too many John Franks and Sarah Hughes to be able to tell which ones are the right ones, so thought looking for them together might help. Just a thought but I think Hughes could be an Irish name. Could they have come from Ireland to Liverpool (a lot of people did) and maybe Thomas Edward was born there and just believed he was born Liverpool. I can't find a birth for Thomas Edward Franks in 1842 or 1843, but then he may not have been registered at all as it wasn't compulsory until 1875. Kath. x

Hi Lynne & Kath, Thomas Edward Franks states on marriage that he was born in Liverpool and was a cook it also states on his death certificate he had been in Australia for 41 years, so he would have arrived approx 1864 at the age of 21. I can't find Thomas, John or Sarah on the 1851 census anywhere. Its like looking for a needle in a haystack. That's why I wondered if they could have been travelling when Thomas was born as John Franks was a surveyor. Heather
