To look to see if someone had left a will you can search the national probate calendar, its generally held at larger RO's mainly up to 1943 but a few have later. Holborn in London have to date I believe. These are the RO's that are known to hold it, but check with others nearer to you if they arent on the list http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/Probate.html Here is the website twhere you can download the relevant form to order the probate search, its got all the instructions at the bottom of the form. You want the form for Application for Probate Search http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/HMCSCourtFinder/GetForms.do?court_forms_category=probate It costs £5 for the search. Of course if you are confident that the person left a will, then you can leave looking at the probate calendar out, and just go straight for the probate search. ...but if it turns out they never left a will it would have cost you £5 for the search. |

I think my great grandmothers second husband probably left a will as he was a master baker. I have looked on Ancestry but am having difficulties getting my head round it. Any suggestions as to how I go about it please. Kathlyn |
