Then you will need to look at the burnt files (WO363), these are held at the national archives in Kew. You have about a 1 in 3 chance of finding him. Alternatively you can wait, I understand that Ancestry will be offering the burnt files, probably next year. or Look to see if you near near a family history center or www.familysearch.org and for a few pounds they can order in the reel for you. Title details: Military records of the British Army, 1914-1920 (surnames A-E)

First thing first have you checked on ancestry on the WW1 pension files to see if he is on there?

I have just discovered on a cert. my grandfather Charles Samuel Arnold was a Gunner in the Royal Field Artillery. I got all excited but when I searched for him on The National Archives found loads of Charles Arnolds and also so many regiments with Royal Field Artillery in them. Any ideas how I can thin these out to discover which if any is mine. Thanks anyone
