Well I'm book marking that site as my husbands great grand father was a political activist who told to leave Ireland. He wanted to go to the USA but the first ship leaving was coming to Australia. Perhaps I will find something about him. |

DO HAVE A LOOK AT THIS WEBSITE Lots of counties covered. I had a look at it...very interesting reading the snippets of info from the Dublin Newspapers 1800's and 1900's which also mentions things going on in other counties and also the news items mentioned in the London newspapers. Some BDM's reported in the papers too...obviously only the wealthy of the area could do that back then. No mention of my family's ancestors but OMG how they treated those poor souls that were caught stealing something so trivial as a strip of leather or a scrap of food. Public floggings, condemned to death and hung within 24 hours of being caught committing a trivial crime, transported to far away countries for 7 years and some for life even children. Also some mentions of how many ships left with prisoners/convicts bound for Australia. Loads of them. |
