Genealogy Chat

My great great grandfather's sister Isabella Charlton b. 1861 married George Dunn Aird in Sunderland in 1890. In the 1891 census (RG12; Piece: 4151; Folio 80), they have no children (despite what the mis-transcription says), but Isabella's niece Ada Pattison is staying with them. However, I cannot find George and Isabella in 1901. Perhaps they're not there to be found, or perhaps they're mistranscribed. I've checked their 1891 address; someone else lives there. Does anyone care to have a look?

Can't find them in 1901, but there are these two births on Ancestry. Kath, The 1893 child is in the 1901 census as the son of Henry and Mary E. Henry also is a marine engineer! [Edit: checked him out... he seems to be George's brother]. I can't find the 1897 child (or a death), so he may very well be George and Isabella's son. I probably should get George and Isabella's marriage certificate, because it will be interesting to see who she says her father is. It will probably just say 'deceased'. She's actually my gt gt gf's half-sister. His father Henry died in 1848; his mother Margaret is a pauper on parish relief in 1851, then had another child, Mary, in 1852, and then in 1861, she appears as Mrs Ralph Teesdale - except that in 1871, she's back as Margaret Charlton again, with 10 year old Isabella. I assume Isabella's father was Ralph, since Margaret must have been pregnant at the time of the 1861 census. Isabella's middle name of Havelock is a mystery to me, unless it's her grandmother Isabella's maiden name. Peter.

Awesome! I knew you guys would come through. Thanks very much. Gail, I must have been blind not to spot Widow Awd. :) Isaac Berriman makes sense. He married Ethel Pattison, who was the sister of Ada, the niece mentioned previously. Hurray! It's nice when all the jigsaw pieces fit together.

I cannot find a death (on free bmd) instantly for George Dunn Aird/variations, but there is a George Dunn in 1897 in Tynemouth, would he have had any reason to drop the Aird,......that is if Isabelle really is a widow. Gail.

There is a George Dunn Aird on the Florida Death Index 1877-1998. I don't have access to those records, so can't give more detail. Reg

On findmypast overseas I have found the death in 1892 of George Dunn Aird, aged 29..........death registered in Acuba. Page 145. Reg
