HELP! I have managed to trace my family tree to my GGGgrandfather (circa 1827) but need some help in going back further. I have visited the Records Office and looked at PR's (Bilston, Staffordshire) for his baptism and confirmed his parents names. How do I go back to the next stage? (I think I found the marriage of his parents but it didn't give me any further info) SUGGESTIONS PLEASE?? Thanks

Note all details of the marriage , including witnesses and look for the baptism of other children of this couple... They might later show up as witnesses or informants for your known family. Maybe banns survived, which might be useful too. Look for any and all of the people in census to confirm links. Search for possible Wills, which are sometimes great at defining relationships..... Don't forget to look for Wills under the wife's maiden name too, as she or her children could possibly be named there. It's a case of gathering as many facts as possible, which confirm you are chasing the right people. Gwyn

Well, you tend to pray that the parents married and were born in the same parish as the child/ren are born and then go backwards tracing their baptisms and their parents. If not you spend years going through every neighbouring parish in your quest (join the club!) Have you tried the IGI on familysearch.org- or any possible transcribed parish records online or at FHS?
