Remember to check what years the RO offices go up to with the probate calendar.

What years are you talking about? If its after 1858 the national archives online wont have it you will need to apply for a probate search This is the form and the instructions are at the bottom of the form. http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/HMCSCourtFinder/GetForms.do?court_forms_category=probate York is taking about 6 weeks to do a search at the moment, but if the search you are after is after 1955 then Cardiff probate is taking about a week I have been informed. Probate Registry of Wales P.O. Box 474 2 Park Street Cardiff South Wales CF10 1TB Wales 029 2037 6479 It costs £5 for a standard four year search even if they dont find anything. However, if you would rather check beforehand if your ancestor left a will you can have a look at the national probate calendar which is available at larger record offices. These do hold it: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/Probate.html

Sue is it a Lincolnshire death? The archives at Lincoln have the probate calender as most records offices do, could take a look next time I go for you. As for wills online, I cannot find mine on the nationalarchives site either, but I know they exist, I have copies.
