Thanks Jane - yes there were other family members. He was 18 and he had an elder sister of 22, and two younger brothers of 15 and 13. They were visiting an Aunt in Shoreditch. |

I have found my Gt.Grandfather James Cartland in the 1901, 1891, 1881 and 1871 Census' all which state his birthplace was Islington, Middlesex 1842/1843, but in the 1861 a birthplace of St.James Clerkenwell is shown in 1843 - his occupation is given as Feather Maker(Marker ?) which is correct as in subsequent ones he was a Feather Dyer. Can anyone tell me if this is likely to be the same person. I know that Islington & Clerkenwell are not too far apart. Many thanks, Jenny. |
