Only thing that I can think of given the year 1943 is that her husband was away fighting or in pow camp and she had the child from a passing relationship. This was quite common during the war as I know from my own family. Just a suggestion though. Regards Alex

Because at the time of the birth, although the mother was married, her husband was not the father. However, the birth had to be registered in the mother's name at the time, which was that of her first husband. The second husband was probably the real father. Kath. x

Perhaps her husband was at war and the child was the result of an affair? Rose

any suggestions I have recently received a birth certificate for a relative which was re registered in 1961 the person was born in 1943. It appears that his mother was married previously and registered the original birth with her married surname .(original) when it was re registered in 1961 it has a different surname it looks like he has taken his mothers second husbands name . When I received the one that was registered in original name in 1943 it doesn't show a fathers name or profession etc ,she was married as I found her marriage cert .she had been married for about 12 years before he was born . any ideas anyone why there would have been no fathers details. I have ordered mothers 2nd marriage cert to see if it said she was widowed divorced etc still waiting for this carron
