Hi there is a website where you can download the relevant form, its got all the instructions at the bottom of the form. You want the form for Application for Probate Search http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/HMCSCourtFinder/GetForms.do?court_forms_category=probate

Sheila I've applied for a couple of wills recently and used Cardiff Probate Office as they are really quick. Admittedly I'm in England, but they only took one week whereas apparently York takes something like six weeks. CARDIFF Probate Registry of Wales PO Box 474 2, Park Street Cardiff CF10 1TB Tel: 02920 376479 Email : [email protected] Lyndsey

Yes for after 1955 you could use Cardiff, I have used them before. For anything before 1955 it goes to York anyway.

I didn't know that. Last week I received a will from Cardiff and that was from before 1955 and I've just ordered another one made in 1907. Lyndsey

Thats interesting Lyndsey...I have asked Cardiff before about their service when someone suggested them to me, and they said that anything after 1955 they hope to have a turn around of about a week. But anything before 1955 went to York.. Tell me how long your pre 1955 will takes to come back from them. In the meantime I am going to email them, I will let you know their response.

Sorry for the delayed reply Willow I telephoned the Cardiff Probate Office yesterday and they confirmed that the request for the 1907 will has been forwarded to York and they have about a six week backlog. Apparently the previous will I ordered (for 1952) was sufficiently close to the 1955 cut off date that they were able to deal with it themselves. I got it wrong, I’m sorry. I’m feeling like a right idiot. Lyndsey

Hi Lyndsey Thanks for letting me know, dont feel like that, at least we know now. Its still very useful to know for recent wills. Thanks

Thank you for those kind words Willow! I’m really keen to get the copy of the 1907 will and the thought that it might take another 5 weeks to arrive is so frustrating! Best wishes Lyndsey

York has had a six week backlog for about the last 20 years!!! Some of us have a theory that there is only one girl in the office and she shoves Will applications in a tray and only deals with them after 5 weeks and 3 days, lol. OC
