Hello, Have you tried freereg(.)org(.)uk? There is coverage of Wolverhampton there, although if you are not sure of the parish, its best to just specify Staffordshire. The menus are not in strict alphabetical order, and the search engine sometimes doubles up on results, but the information is comprehensive, and searching on a name will pick up any occurrence of that person in the record. There are records for St Peter's on the IGI that go up to 1844.(Although in practice its actually up to 1831 as I've only found 1 record between then & 1844). If your GGGrandfather was a Tomlinson there are 2 births for the period c1817. James ch. 8/9/1816 & William ch.11/10/1818. Their parents were William Tomlinson & Hannah Price m. 7/10/1810. If he wasnt a Tomlinson let me know and I'll do another lookup for you.

Have a look on the website for Wolverhampton City Archives (access through Genuki) & go to Family History/Church Records - they have transcriptions of a lot of St Peters BMDs. Also although very little is indexed on the IGI, the LDS has filmed it all and you can hire in the films at a LDS church near your home if you can't access the archives in Wolverhampton. I was looking for a marriage for 10 or 12 years and found it in Wolverhampton in 1795 when the index went up on the website. So have a look in the Library Catalogue on the LDS Family Search website for the film numbers. Regards Lesley Instone

Do you mean onthe IGI? Coverage there only goes upto 1812 but this doesn't mean that the records don't exist, just that they haven't transcribed them. According to Genuki, the records are held at Staffordshire Records Office and the Bishops Transcripts are at Lichfield Records Office. 1812 was a significant year as it was the year the churches went over to using books with pre printed forms. Are you sure there isnt another register from 1812? OC

Hi I'm new to this tracing lark but I felt I was doing okay until I reached the end of bmd . I have a GGGrand Father born 1817 in Wolverhampton. For some reason there is a gap from 1812 when the parish register ends and1837 when registration begins. Sorry should have said this is the parish church of st. Peter Wloves. Can any one tell me why and is there any way of finding the information?thanks steve.
