Sue I added a message to the records message board, but have just noticed that it's been inactive since Nov, so I'm copying it here:- Can you look up anything before 1919? If so 1909 & 1910, 9 Grantham Rd, and 'Sunhill', names of Symes, and Wynn or Wynne. Or maybe up till 1918, when I believe Ivy Wynn/Symes died. Does it do schools? Or is there a way of finding out pupil registers? I don't know how the Directories work, so I realise this may not be enough to go on. Thanks, Bx |

Roy. I looked in GR while I had credits left. Couldn't find anything between July '07 - Dec '09. The story was that the father died when Dad was a baby, and thatDad was named after him - the only Francis William Symes whose death would tie in was a 36 yr-old in West Ham, July-Sept 1910. May not be him. May not even be the right name! As the 'father' section of the birth cert. was scored through, I'm guessing that she probably wasn't married, but changed her name to protect my Dad - and herself. Don't know where else to look - having problems with ancestry - see separate thread. Can you help? Bx |

In addition, his mother, previously Ivy Wynn, has given her name as Ivy Symes, the surname Dad carried, but there's no father - he was told his Fa had died when Dad was a baby - and no wedding I can find. To add to the mystery, her residence is 'Sunhill, Upper Parkstone', another district of Bournmouth, by I can't find Sunhill on Google Earth - I wondered if it was a manor house or estate or some such - her occupation is 'housemaid (domestic)' and most of her family worked at some time at Stratfield Saye, the Duke of Wellington's estate, so there'd be a logic to this. But would she still have had a job, when she'd been pregnant, and now had a 6week-old baby? Any thoughts? Bx |

I've just got a birth cert for my Dad for 1910, giving 'where born' as 9 Grantham Road - nothing more than that, but it's in Christchurch, Bournmouth, where the birth was registered. Would this have been an ordinary house, or a hostel/hospital? (More below.) Bx |
