Heather Thanks for the money-saving tip - I've made a note to myself, for later. Kevin Is rootmagic any good for searching, or is it just a tree-making tool? Peter Hmm, that's got me wondering. I'll double-check what I'm doing. Thanks, lovely people! Bx

I just wonder if you are actually logging in. You should see something live the line below on the top right hand side of your screen if you are logged in correctly. Welcome, YourName Log OutUpgradeMy AccountHelp

Have you tried Roots Magic, I got it off a cover disc but it is free to download a tester at http://www.rootsmagic.co.uk/ I upgraded to the full basic version for £16.95 (download) after trying the free version and I find it does everything I want. Kevin

I wonder if you have to upgrade it to get the full monty - thats what usually happens. Have a good read of the packaging. If you are going to sign up to ancestry go through quidco*com and get £12 cash back. Oh and ancestry is the most wonderful resource, I dont know how anyone could manage without it. And my FTM 2006 is brilliant - I have my own home page - something I could never have done without it and everything backed up to cd and onto the internet storage (about a fiver a year) - well worth it.

Heather It was Sunday Times, months ago. I thought it sounded too good to be true, but that was what came up when I registered the CD. Maybe there's been a 'compurer error' and they've flagged up the wrong message? Maybe that's why I'm having problems? Maybe I should just pay a proper subscription, but I'm a bit loath to do that when I'm having problems already with it! Bx

Im really surprised a free disc would have a 90 day sub! Which paper was that with please? Normally the free discs do not have all the facilities of a paid for one and wouldnt be able to search.

Thanks for that, Alex. I'll persevere, now I have a bit more knowledge. Ta. Bx

hi Barbara I had a lot of probs with Mozilla refusing to recognise site certificates. You could either change your browser ( bit drastic) or change your browser settings to accept certificate from this site. As for loading maybe try to reload again? I use this site and have had no probs but there is always an exception!! Good luck Alex

I've loaded a free (with newspaper) version of FTM 2005, which has 90 day free subscription. I've managed - I think! - to register and add user id and password, and sometimes it recognises me but mostly doesn't. I also invariable get a window message saying that the site security certificate isn't recognised my my browser (Mozzila Firefox). And when I do get into the site, the buttons which say 'search' etc. are very dim, (bit like me!!) and I wonder if it's all loaded properly. I keep hearing great things about it from all you 'tipsters', but so far it's 'pants'! Though it's probably me, doing something wrong. Can some wise person help? Bx
