Thinking of giving up...

Thinking of giving up... Report 17 Mar 2007 22:34

I am trying to trace my grandmother so far with no success whatsoever. I do know where she was working and living though in 1935. She worked as a domestic servant. Did employees have something such as a work card with their national insurance number (or a similar number) in those days that they presented to their employer? Would their employer do anything with this number such as inform a revenue office??? Thanks

I don't think National Insurance or the Revenue Office would give out information even if they had it from that long ago. What are you trying to find? Do you want to go further back and find her ancestors or do you want to find more up to date information to the present time? Kath. x

Thanks everyone for your help. I am trying to find out what happened to my nan after she disappeared from the last known address we have for her in 1935. However I have tried Traceline and the Salvation Army - no luck. Also surname is Jones. I have been told she moved onto Devon during World War II. Have no date of birth, place of birth or death details for her either so I am totally stuck. N
