Tracing Grandma I have found the record of my mothers birth which confirms her mothers name as Elizabeth Fowkes, but where can I view this certificate or how can I go about getting a hard copy of it.Will it potentially give me any more information about my Grandmother? Age occupation, place pof birth etc all of which are unknown to me at the moment/Any advice anybody? Thanks Julie

If you contact your local Council Office, or if you know where your mother was born, the local Council Office there. You may have to pay for the Birth Certificate Hopes this helps. Deb.

Hi Julie, if you have found her birth registration on the birth index, you can order the certificate from the GRO oinline here using the reference you have found (vol and page number):- http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ Certs cost £7 if you use the vol and page reference. If you do not have the ref, if you would like to pm me her details, will get if for you and pm you. The birth cert will give your mothers place of birth, parents names including mothers maiden name, and fathers occupation. You then need to find a marriage for the parents, this will give fathers names and occupations, and ages for the bride and groom (but not place of birth). Hopefully you will then be able to find them on census and find where they were born.
