Can anyone help at all. My Father was born in Sep 1912 in Birkenhead UK to a young lady called Olive May White who came over here from Vancouver with her mother. She left him with a woman called Mary Jane Cropper who was the midwife at the birth she was also the informant. He was then left in the care of a Mr.& Mrs Abbott. Olive and /or her mum wrote (they took it in turns to write) fairly regularly for a while sending money and presents. They never came back for him.The only address I have for Olive and her Mum is their name and Vancouver, B.C. Canada , General Delivery. Can anyone give me any clues as to how I can trace his family.many thanks Paul White

Looking on the BC index, the only entry for Olive May White is a death in 1977 and as she was 73 she's obviously not yours unless her age is out by at least 10 years. There are no marriages for Olive May White either, so I'm not sure how you're going to trace her. Have you tried looking on the shipping lists for them? Not sure that will help much either though. I don't mind checking out the 1977 death if you'd like me to when I'm next at the library. Jenny

Do you know her mum's name and have you checked on earlier census in Canada? Also, this site has some records, although none for Olive White: http://www*islandnet*com/bccfa/homepage.html (replace * with .) Have you tried writing to the Postmaster (using the general delivery address), asking what district that address may have covered? (Could it have been only for Vancouver, or maybe it included surrounding towns?)

Lisa thanks for that ,I don't know her mothers name, all I have is Mrs.N.H. White.I do have a letter tho' with her name but I can't make out her first name, and she seems to sign herself differently from time to time either N.H. or H.N. All helps to make things confusing. Paul

Does the H stand for Hamilton? You mentioned something about Hamilton in your other thread. Rose

Rose, yes it looks like Hamilton is in there somehow,I've also just discovered that Olive's mother seems to be using her husbands name, either that or her name was Norman ! Paul

Still don't see any Norma/Norman Whites in BC. Rose
