Hi all, Does anyone have any ideas where would someone go if they wanted to train to be a Vicar? He originated from Staffordshire. We are talking around the middle to late 1950's. Thanks Lou |

Hi Pauline, But that's not residential - or is it? I thought a Seminar was just for one day or a few days? Lou |

If you can have a look at Crockfords Clerical Directory, which you can access at the main libraries or records office, it will tell you where he trained and where he lived. Here's the beginning of the info I found about my great uncle BA Manchester 1922 St. Stephen's House [Theological College], Oxford 1922 Deacon 1924, priest 1925, by the Bishop of Manchester Curate, St. Paul, Preston, 1924-26 Curate, SS Peter and Paul. Wisbech, 1926-31 Vicar, Buckminster with Sewstern 1931-37 Rector, Saxelby with Grimston and Shoby, Leics, 1937- From this, with help from people here, I e-mailed Manchester and obtained his ordination papers which had various personal effects too. I then e-mailed the college he attended after finding them through his papers and got some further college photo's of him. Hope this helps Elaine |

Hi Elaine, Thank you so much for all the information, it's amazing what you found, and such an inspiration for me, as I didn't think I'd find that much. I've made a note of your comments for future reference and will certainly go the local library first thing Monday morning. I've pm'd you. thank you again. Lou |

<But that's not residential - or is it? I thought a Seminar was just for one day or a few days?> A SEMINAR is a meeting or conference A SEMINARY is a training college for priests - Roman Catholic I think, as Cof E training colleges are usually referred to as Theological Colleges. If you think your chap was CofE and still alive in 1995 I have a Crockfords for that year. Send me the name in a pm if you like and I'll have a look for him. |
