I would like to access my great grandfathers military records, and also his brothers. Do I have to ask permission from the next of kin, which would then be the grandson? The dates are around 1916 for the brother and around 1916 to about 1930 for my great grandfather. thx Nicola x |

as far as i am aware te next of kin is the only person allowed to apply for them. myself and sister are the only living relatives in our line so if we require any she has got to get them as she older than me. |

thank you all for that I managed to get medical for both of them in the archives, so does that mean that might be able to access the records of both without permission from the next of kin? Nicola x |

I'm a bit dubious as to how strict they. My Dad's 1939 - 1963 records -I got simply by sending my birth cert - they didn't want to know if I had older siblings and I just said my Mum was dead with no proof. Also I got some from the Grenadier Guards - admittedly 1918 death - by just confusing them on the 625th cousin 22 times removed explanation - I think the cheque for payment helped there! Jan |
