Emma, sorry there is no quick fix with this hobby. If you think Edith's mother married a Smith then there is a possible marriage but until the marriage certificate arrives it is just guess work. They lived in either Nottinghamshire or Derbyshire but not sure exactly where. The death index says her death was registered in Belper Derbyshire and the marriage is listed as Nottingham. I have ordered the marriage cert but that will take a week and I have no patience!

Emma do you have her marriage certificate? There should be a fathers name & occupation on it, If there is no fathers name then she was probably illigitimate. Georgina.

I could really do with some help! On my tree I have Edith Ashton born c1895 she was married to John Thomas Parker. We don't know much about Edith as she died when her daughter (my partners grandmother) was 5 and John remarried. I have found an Edith Ashton on the 1901 census with a family of Smiths. We think Edith had a sister called Gertrude and another called Annie so this seems to fit with the mother as Annie on this census record but I don't know who Edith's father is and there seem to be a couple of birth records which could be her. There is a whisper in the family that she may have been born out of wedlock. Can anyone shed any light on it for me?
