I think I may have found relatives in the 1901 census can anyone give me any tips as to how I go about tracing any dependants of theirs leading to the present day? |

Don't know if this is the right way to go Keith but I was in the same position and found an aunt and two cousins still alive. Follow the male line trawling for maybe births and area. Then look on electoral reg./telephone books etc. write or phone and hope!!!! It can sometimes work it did for me. Linda |

Keith, What makes you 'think' you may have found some relatives on the 1901 census? You must have some other information to support this idea. Genealogy is not a guessing game it needs to be proved. I started with the present day and purchased b.m.d. certificates for each and every person and when proved who was who I was able to go back a little further until 1753. I am old fashioned in as much that I believe the internet to be very useful and take the slog out of the work but at the end of the day you often need a serious search at the records office in person. I have had a family of 'Rogers' from Bethnal Green on the go for years and have still not got that final link. Always live in hope that I will crack it one day. Good luck. Margaret N |
