The name 'Ashton' seems so British, so I ask this question - Is it possible that the name of the father of the boys born 1894 & 1900 was, in fact, a Brit who was working or serving in Belgium ? Though the certificate you have is in one of the Belgian languages you should be able to make out the name of the father and mother - the mother possibly a Belgian girl. Apart from that thought yiou will have found that there is no central register for BMD - as for most European countries but you appear to have one certificate which you should be able to follow through. Antwerp (Antwerpen) is one of the largest cities in Belgium and there are several districts within it - you really should know the name of the district. I would suggest that you e-mail the Antwerp State Archive - though they probably are unable to answer your question maybe they can direct you to the required address. You will have also seen that most of the online sites for Belgium are mainly in Flemish with a few in French too - so if you cannot understand the cert you will not be able to understand the site even if there is one !! You really need the e-mail address of the Antwerp registrar for the district. Maybe by sending a scan of the cert that you have may make things a little easier. Where would I look to find my grand-dad and grt grand-dad they were both born in Belgium my grand-dad was born in 1900 in Antwerp his brother 1894 same place, surname of Ashton they came to live in England not sure what year. I have only found one site for Belgium and they were not on that, I have my grand-dads birth cert but I can't understand it as it is not in English (obviously). Anybody know of any sites that I can look. Thanks Debbie |
