Hello, Hopefully someone can help me. I'm trying to find the marriage record for James Wilcox and Elizabeth(?) Roach. I can find birth records for two children, James b 1920 and Roseanna b 1921 in Newcastle Upon Tyne which is where I've got the maiden name from. I've tried looking through the quarterly indexes but I'm just not seeing anything. Any help appreciated! Becky |

I haven't orderd a birth certificate yet, but in the birth index, the mother's maiden name is listed. Do you think that if the couple were unmarried they would list the mother's name as 'maiden' name? |

I've looked at all quarters 1912-1920. I'm just wondering if I'm looking but not seeing, if you know what I mean! |

I think they would tell you the mothers surname at her birth, so whether she was married or not you would not be able to tell unless you bought the certificate and it gave both the married and maiden names. If you have the gro ref its £7 - I find this cheaper than sleepless nights and dye for my grey hairs!! This is presuming you have the right children ........ |

Hi, Thanks for looking for me. As far as I know they are English, but that doesn't mean they are, I've had surprises before! I think I will order a birth certificate as either way, the marriage record isn't obvious. I was only holding off because I thought maybe it was there and I couldn't see it! Thanks again! |

Hi again folks, I ordered the birth certificate of James Wilcox and it lists his mother as 'Elizabeth Wilcox formerly Roach' this implies to me that they were definitely married. Am I right to make this assumption or is there still a possibility they were unmarried? Also, any hints on finding their marriage, other than broadening my search? thanks Becky |
