Military Regiment help needed

I have recently obtained the military records for an ancestor who joined the 29th Regiment of foot in Deal / Kent in 1817 but when i google this regiment it comes up as a Worcestershire regiment, would this have been common for them to be moved away to a different county rather than serve in a local one. Also on his service records under his character reference it say's that he wears three rings of good conduct, any ideas what this means. Any help would be grateful Thanks Dean

You may find his original regiment was absorbed into another. Try this site: http://www.regiments.org/

Dean - if you check out the 1914-1918.net website and join their forum you will find many military buffs who will be able to answer most of, if not all, your military questions. They really are a helpful bunch! The website itself contains much useful information, too, and well worth a read of. Regards Athena

A man would not always enlist into his home county Regiment, he could go where he was most needed, or to whichever Regiment was in the county at the time, I am sure if you searched you would find that the 29th. Regiment of Foot was stationed in Kent at some time or other, if not at the time your man enlisted. Jennifer
