Thanks everyone, so my assumptions of Croydon are all wrong - unless they moved of course. Thanks Jim, you always seem to know the answer to my questions, i did a simlar sort of thing but on Free BMD, but i put the name of Smith in thinking that there had to be at least one family i would find, didnt realise you could do it on ancestry without a name. Can anyone please tell me if someone died in Woking Surrey what registration district would show on GRO. I cant find Woking as such, Surrey seems to be divided into North, South etc but can find no mention of Woking on any of them. Its a very common name i am looking for, a few possibilities coming up as Croydon, could that be them? I am interested in years 1900 - 1980's Also, is there an easy way of finding out registration districts from Free BMD, or rather, what area the place comes under if it isnt in itself a registration district?
