I live in Australia and have had great success in finding out about my Grandfather's past - and his family. We were able to get a copy of his original file through their after-care system, but I don't think that they will give out the info to citizens in England/Britain. (Yes, the information 'orphans' were given re their birthdates,families and places of origin was deliberately falsified.) His next of kin had to fill out a form and sign it and we paid for the research, but it was worth it. I know that Red Cross did the initial tracing many years ago, they may be able to help you. Sam
