I`ve had a reply from the Summerhill House Hotel , where my greatgrandmother worked in 1895,at last after 2 letters and 2 e- mails stating the earliest record of a dwelling house was about 1880. Where would I find this record? Thanks, Ros

Ros Attached is a weblink showing the land records that might be available however I think most of them are pre 1880 (Griffiths and Tithe Appointment Books). The cancelled books or deeds section may however be of use. http://www.ireland(.)com/ancestor/browse/records/land/ In the meantime I will see if there are any other sites that could be of use and will let you know. With kind regards Karen

Ros The Department of Manuscripts in the National Library holds archives of many former landed estates. Estate archives contain the records of the administration of estates by landlords and their agents, and generally include leases, rentals, accounts, correspondence and maps. Among the more notable of these estate archives are Castletown (Co. Laois), Clements (Cos. Leitrim and Donegal), Clonbrock (Co. Galway), Coolattin (Co. Wicklow), De Vesci (Co. Laois), Doneraile (Co. Cork), Headford (Co. Meath), Inchiquin (Co. Clare), Lismore (Co. Waterford), Monteagle (Co. Limerick), O'Hara (Co. Sligo), Ormond (Cos. Tipperary and Kilkenny), Powerscourt (Co. Wicklow), Prior-Wandesforde (Co. Kilkenny), Sarsfield (Co. Cork) and Wicklow (Co. Wicklow). More information available from: http://www(.)nli(.)ie/co_manu(.)htm Karen

Ros The property may have been a rateable property at some point in time and therefore the valuation office my have some information. The valuation office have a person who deals with genealogical research and it might be worthwhile contacting him as he might be able to give you some guidance. Try the following web link which gives you his e-mail address http://www.valoff(.)ie/Genealogy_Research(.)html. however I think there is a fee associated with it. Might be worth a try or at least he might be able to give you some further direction. Best of Luck Karen
