On 1881 census, my rellie is living in Tamworth, Staffordshire but his birthplace is listed as Tamworth, Warwickshire. Could this have been mistranscribed as I thought Tamworth is in Staffordshire? See below. |

There have probably been boundary changes since then, so this could account for it. Kath. x |

Thanks Kathleen. So does this mean that Tamworth was a part of Warwickshire prior to 1881 and I should be searching Warwickshire for ancestors of rellie? |

I dont know if this helps, from Google.... Until 1889 Tamworth was partly in Warwickshire and partly in Staffordshire. In that year the boundary was changed so Tamworth became located entirely in Staffordshire. Georgina. |

I would search both counties, as I think boundaries used to change quite a bit. Kath. x |

Thanks Georgina. That's helped to clear things up. I thought it had to be something like that. Deb:) |

Funnily enough I looked this up yesterday, because I'm looking for people in Tamworth too. Here's Genuki's explanation, with details of which parishes were in which county: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/STS/Tamworth/index.html Also watch out for mistranscriptions, because there's a village in Warwickshire called Tanworth. |
