Hi all A bit of a late night challenge for you. I'm looking for Benjamin Grubb (b. Newnham Worcestershire 1862), and his marriage to a Sarah (surname unknown b. Darlaston Staffs 1862). I have him on all Census apart from 1881. Here is what I have so far. 1862 - Born Tenbury, Worcestershire 1871 - Living with family in Tredegar, Wales (recorded as Grub) 1881 - ??? 1891 - Married and living in Sheffield (Brightside Bierlow) with wife Sarah and 2 daughters and a son (Sarah, Harriet and John). Also has older brother John and his son Thomas living with them. - Benjamin Grubb, Newnam Worcestershire, 1863 - Sarah A Grubb, Darshilion Staffordshire, 1862 - Sarah A Grubb, Walsall Staffordshire, 1881 - Harriet Grubb, Oldberry Worcestershire, 1887 - John T Grubb, Walsall Staffordshire, 1889 1901 - Back in Walsall, 59 James Street. Have boarder James Lysett. Daughter Sarah A seems to have married (Cooke) but here husband is not recorded. Any help finding the marriage or their entry in 1881 gratefully received....Paul |

Well, I swear he's not on that 1881 census! And it's not even a late night challenge for me, I'm in Canada so it's only early evening but I'll be d---d if I can find him. Margaret |

Well I looked on the 1881 Cds and there is no Benjamin Grubb or Sarah Grubb with the parameters you give in the 1881 census. They must have not been recorded, or the page is lost. You can check on ancestry to see if any bits of Walsall are missing. Di |

Hi Georgina, Margaret, Laurie, Jennifer, Di and Eleanor. Thanks for looking into this one. I ordered Sarah's birth cert on Saturday, hopefully this will open things up. My current thinking is that they are in Walsall in 1881, but must be on some of the missing pages (I believe there are some missing for this area???) At least it confirms that I'm not going mad ! Cheers...Paul |
