Hi Everyone I've just joined Tiscali Broadband and when I click on the icon on my desktop a dial up box comes on with my tiscali name and password. If I go into my start programme and click connect to, a different tiscali box comes up which when I click connects me. When I go on a search the first box comes up again (dial up) and tells me to connect. Im very suspricious of this as I am already connected but it's telling me Im not. I had this before when I was with freeserve and didn't realise until I got my phone bill that I had been charged for this dial up. I have the latest Norton antivirus and the fraud monitoring is running but it's not showing anything suspicious. Im not very good with computers (as you may have guessed!) and would appreciate any advice. Carole xx |

I'm with Tiscali broadband (used to have their dial-up) and still have an icon for Tiscali on the desktop although nothing happens when I click on it now. If you're on broadband it's on permanently. You should only have to launch the internet explorer - a big blue e, either on your desktop or start up menu. Lizzie |

Hi Carole If you click on Start, then Control Panel, it will bring a list of options up, if you click on Internet Options, this will open a window up. In that window there should be across the top seven tabs, one called Internet connections. Click on this tab, there should be a section titled Dialup and Virtual Private Network connections. In the box below mine has Tiscali Broadband (default) and Tiscali Pay as You Go. Check which is your default and make Broadband the default if not already. You can if you wish remove the PAYG option by clicking on PAYG and then clicking remove. In event of a broadband fault, I woould make a note of the PAYG settings before deleting. This should stop your dial-up connection trying to dial. |

I've just checked and in the dial up and virtual privacy network it says Tiscali Broadband Default. I dont see anything about Pay as you Go. The 3 options say Never dial a connection, Dial whenever a network connection is not present and Always dial my default connection which its set at. Carole xx |

Carole, mine is set at Never dial a connection, try that. Because with Broadband you are always part of the network (always on) you do not need to dial a connection. |
