Possible a stillborn child so would not appear in a Register.

Hoping somebody can help! I have Ellen Charlotte Pope who died on 31 October 1881 of puerperal peritonitis. However, I can't find a birth or a death of a child around the same time. I have found her husband on the 1891 census, but without the child. Is it possible that the event was not registered? Many thanks, Karen

Well, there will be a register of stillbirths somewhere, but I don't know whether you will be able to get access to it. Do you know the name of the hospital where the mother died, that would be a good place to start.

The register for stillbirths did not start until about 1927 so you will probably not find any record in the 1880's Georgina.

I don't think there will be any record. Stillbirth registration commenced only commenced on 1st July 1927, The GENUKI site has a lot of useful information on Civil Registration http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LIN/civilreg.html
