It's a feminised form of Narcissus which aside from the vain Greek, is the fancier name for daffodil - I would guess the parents were thinking more along those lines? |

Hi Jim, Sorry youve confused me now! My Narcissa Bishop was 36 on 1841 census so the one your found born abt 1805 in Stourton matches. Are you suggesting the one you found on 1851 census (Narcisis Bishop) who was born about 1785 could be her mother? |

I have just discovered on the 1841 census that my ancestor Thomas Bishop's wife is given as 'Narcissa' Bishop. Unfortunately there is no entry in the where born column. Does anyone know the origin of this name, or even heard of this name or have any idea what part of the country (or even which country) it could have originated from please? Any help would be appreciated. |
