Has anybody traced rels in the police force and does anyone know if I am likely to find anything at this period of time?. Haven't googled yet but will after peoples thoughts Thanks Elaine

Where was he a policeman, Elaine? There's info on some local police forces, and a lot on the Metropolitan police. maggie

You don't say where he lived. but the answer is yes, you should be able to find the records you want, though 1840 is rather early. My own police ancestor joined up in the 1850's and I found a wealth of information. The Black Sheep Index may well have newspaper references to him too. Go for it.

Morning Paul He left the force before 1850 so have not found anything, it starts 1850 but it's brilliant for anyone with rels beyond the date, have never really looked before Thank you Elaine
