I have an ancestor born in 1843 according to the census, yet the baptism records show a child of his name and the correct name for his parents in his home town being baptised in 1842. Can this be possible? Hope someone can help. Regards Bill

	What date was the baptism? A child born in 1842 after the date corresponding to the census date would be 8 years old in 1851. They didn't ask the DOB..........just the age. Nowhere on the census does the year of birth appear..........the estimated year of birth is calculated by the transcribers..............by simple subtraction. So, 75% or so of people were actually born in the year preceding that estimated by the transcribers. Reg
