its contrary to their rules so yes gr have a duty-but you shouldnt have living people on your tree if you allow others to view it...unless you have their permission.

A while ago my husband gave his permission for someone to view his tree. As we are both doing our families they are obviously linked. Much to my horror the next day I found that this person had taken all of my family as well which had absolutely no connection to him. After a lot of e-mails going back and forward he eventually took off my family but did leave my husband and myself on as well as our family. With the recent identity fraud message going we became very worried and took off our living relatives and requested anyone else who had them to do so as well - which everyone has done except this one person. I have e-mailed him twice now and still no response. Does anyone know if I approach GR whether they can force him to remove my son-inlaw and grandchildren from his tree.

I did have their permission but in light of the identity fraud message going around it has worried everyone and something I don't think half of us even thought of.

Jo, This is from GR's terms and conditions of membership. It answers your question in your last sentence. Quote.....Members must have, and continue to have, the express permission of any living person to include their details in a family tree. If a living person does not expressly consent to its details in a family tree, relevant details must be removed. Members are the controllers of the information they input relating to living persons, and therefore have obligations under the privacy and data protection laws (such as the Data Protection Act 1998). Genes Reunited may remove all or part of a family tree if so required by any affected third parties or by any governmental or regulatory authority. Unquote. So the other member would be required to comply, or have that part of his/her tree removed. It is a tricky area as members are copying others' trees all the time, assuming that since an entry has been made it is OK to copy it. I have used the 120 year rule, which you can switch on in 'My Account Details'. But it still means that one's own details are available. Have a look at this option.
