i cant find the death of WIlliam anywhere. William Smith born 1801 great wolford warwickshire. Married Eliza Smith 14/10/1823 in wolford He is on the 1851 census but eliza is a widdow in the 1861 census please help

There are four deaths for William Smiths in th 1851-1861 period in the Shipston Registration District (covering Great Walford) in freebmd. If they lived elsewhere, it will meaning finding the relevant registration district first. Unfortunately, the NBI only covers Great Wolford up to 1851. Di

Hi Robert Stourton is the same Registration District, so there are still four possibles. Stourton is not covered at all in the NBI. Where do you want to go with this ? You could leave William Smith's death till later and follow his line in another direction. I have lots of folk I have not found their deaths yet. Into my database I put 'aft 1851' and the address at the time of the census - my database gives me error messages, but at least I have their last sighting, and I can follow it up later. If you know William Smith's father's name, you could request the certificate only with the matching father's name. Sometimes that works. Hav eyou looked at the IGI for his baptism ? There are lots of William Smiths, but you might be able to find it. What about any silblings, or William in 1841 ? Di

Hi Robert I don't know how you find out which is your William Smith's death. Maybe more details may become apparent later on. First off, as you have their marriage date, I would suggest you ask the Warwickshire Records Office if they can supply a copy of the parish register record. (they should have a website and it will only cost a few pounds) The marriage record may show further information about the couple and the family. Or you could ask them about William's baptism. They probably either charge for looking, or will recommend an outside researcher if you cannot go there yourself. Have a look around the internet to see what Great Wolford parish records are available on line, or on microfiche from a family history group or elsewhere. Failing that I would find an LDS library and get them to order a microfilm of the Great Wolford parish records and trawl through the years 1800-1805 for William Smith's baptism.
