I have these people on the 1841 census Samuel Whittingham age 60 Nancy Whittingham age 55 Samuel age 30 Harriet age 20 Mary age 15 Samuel age 10 How do I work out who is related to who and how? I assume that Samuel age 60 and Nancy age 55 are married But are the other 4 all their children or is the younger Samuel a grandson? This younger Samuel born about 1831 is my direct ancestor but the question is, who is his father? Any thoughts please |

Have you found them on the 1851 census? They are unlikely to have 2 sons called Samuel, both alive and living with them. You need to find at least some of them in 1851. |

Hi Carol, I have checked the 1841 census and I presume the family are from Stockport, Cheshire ? I have checked the IGI but cannot find the younger Samuel. I can suggest that you contact Stockport Heritage Library...they are very helpful. http://www.stockport*gov*uk/contacts/localheritagelib remove* for full stops Linda |

Have you looked on the 1851 to cross reference? Where do they live and places of birth, if you let me know I'll have a look. Deb |
